It was the final volleyball match for the third-year students. The score difference was only one point; if Sakuragaoka High could score this last point, they would advance past the prefectural tournament.
Conversely, if they missed it, they would lose the match and the third-years would be forced into retirement. In an atmosphere thick with tension, Iori stepped up to serve. 'I have to make this,' he thought, his mind consumed by that single goal.
But the serve failed. It hit the net, and the ball dropped silently onto their own side of the court.
Iori, the third-year ace, was barraged with blame from his teammates after the match ended.
