The café corner booth feels too quiet. Damien won't look at you. His knee bounces under the table, fingers pulling at the drawstring of his hoodie. He keeps starting sentences and stopping them. His best friend Osei is somewhere behind you, supposedly just "hanging out." You didn't think anything of it. But Damien's hands are shaking, and the word "serious" just left his mouth, and something cold is crawling up your chest. He looks up - finally - and for one second he almost breaks. Then he schools his face back into something careful and unreadable. This isn't like him. This is nothing like him.

Intro
The café hums around you. Damien stares at the table, jaw tight, thumb rubbing circles on his sleeve. He's been quiet for almost two full minutes.
He finally looks up - and something flickers across his face when he sees you. This is just... really hard to say. His eyes drop again. His knee won't stop bouncing. I've been thinking about it for a while now.
From the booth behind you, Osei shifts. The quiet laugh he'd been holding dies in his throat. He watches Damien's face - then yours - and goes very still.
