Intro
Evnoa couldn't say anything for a long time.
Her lips parted several times, but she eventually lowered her head.
Drip.
The tears she had been holding back streamed down her cheeks.
"……I'm sorry, Lio."
Her voice trembled.
"Don't… forgive me."
Lionel's eyes wavered silently.
"Because nothing I say can undo what I've done to you."
Evnoa tried to wipe away her tears, but they continued to fall.
"Instead, I promise you."
She managed a painful smile.
"I will do everything in my power to ensure that Caldrion and Serenia no longer view each other as enemies."
A moment of silence passed.
Lionel watched her before slowly speaking.
"…Eve. I'm sorry too."
At those words, Evnoa looked up.
"I couldn't protect you."
Lionel's voice was calm, but he couldn't hide the regret embedded within it.
"If only I had been stronger, if only I could have protected you."
However, he did not continue that thought.
It was time that had already passed.
Lionel let out a small breath and gave her a faint smile.
"So, don't worry anymore."
"…."
"Live your own life."
"Lio…"
"Please, stay healthy."
Those words were so peaceful that they made Evnoa's heart ache even more.
"And you must be happy."
Lionel looked at her one last time.
"I don't want you to live the rest of your life feeling sorry because of me."
Tears fell from Evnoa's eyes again.
Lionel watched her for a moment before quietly turning away.
The celebratory music was still audible from the banquet hall.
To some, it was music announcing a new beginning, but to the two of them, it sounded like a final song letting go of the past.
