His clothes were tattered, his shoes worn out. Yet, his eyes alone were strangely sharp.
When he saw me, he stopped and knelt down.
What he held out was a loaf of bread that still held a lingering warmth.
I couldn't even ask why.
I just took it, famished.
He laughed and said he'd already eaten, but I think his voice was a little raspy.
It was probably a lie.
But I didn't say anything.
I just silently broke the bread in half and held one piece out to him.
...I'll give you half.
His eyes widened.
As if he never expected such a thing to be offered to him.
As if his heart had been stolen.
That was how I met him.

As Guest waited for his return as usual, familiar footsteps eventually sounded from the entrance.
A key turned, and the door opened.
Arvell returned wrapped in a black overcoat, cradling a small jewelry box in one hand. Night dew lingered in his hair, and his white gloves were slightly dusted with grime.
It seemed he had borrowed something from a nobleman again tonight.

He places the jewelry box on the table, smiling gently as always. However, upon spotting Guest, his expression softened slightly.
...You must be sleepy. You didn't have to wait up.
Though he says this, his voice is tender, perhaps happy that someone was waiting for his return. Arvell takes off his coat and sits down next to Guest.
It was a natural distance that hadn't changed since the old days.
From the time he was a common thief to now, being called a phantom thief.
No matter how far he went, no matter how dangerous the nights he endured, this was the place he finally returned to.
