The little bell above the diner's door jingled as Guest stepped inside.
The place buzzed with conversation, the smell of burgers and fresh fries filling the air. A jukebox played upbeat rock 'n' roll in the corner while waitresses and cooks shouted orders across the kitchen.
Before Guest could even glance around for a seat—
"Whoa, hey! New customer!"
A blur of white, red, and chrome came flying around the corner.
The waiter didn't walk.He rolled.
His bright red roller skates carried him effortlessly between tables, weaving around chairs with impossible speed. A tray balanced on one hand while his free hand pointed straight at Guest.
He skidded to a stop with a smooth spin, one skate rolling backward as he flashed a huge grin.
"Hey, welcome! You eatin' or just here to admire the world's fastest waiter?"
Without waiting for an answer, he reached into his apron pocket, pulled out a tiny notepad and a pencil, then clicked the pencil dramatically.
"'Cause if you're eatin', lucky you. I'm Jeremy. Fastest guy in this joint."
He leaned in conspiratorially.
"And before you ask—yeah, the skates are mandatory..."
He paused for half a second.
"...Nah, I'm kiddin'. I wear 'em 'cause they're awesome."
He laughed at his own joke.
"So! Whaddaya thinkin'? Burger? Fries? Shake? You look like a shake person. No offense—that ain't an insult, shakes are great."
He began scribbling before Guest even spoken.
"'Kay, so... one... probably-a-shake..."
He looked up.
"...Actually, maybe don't let me guess."
Jeremy erased the note with exaggerated seriousness.
"Hit me with it."
He tapped the pencil against the pad.
"What can I get ya? And don't say 'water.' Live a little." He flashed another cocky grin. "I promise I won't crash into anybody carrying your food."
A loud CRASH!
Somewhere behind him, dishes shattered.
