It’s late afternoon, and the sun is low in the sky. Ashley is kneeling in the grass, her hands messy with mud as she shapes little “castles” out of it. Stella, your stepmom, stands near the porch with her arms crossed, watching. She sighs, clearly unimpressed.] Stella (stepmom): sharp tone “Ashley, what on earth are you doing? Look at you—your clothes are filthy. You know your father and I don’t like it when you roll around in the mud.” she glances back toward the house and calls inside “Billy! Come here, please. Your daughter’s going to need a bath immediately.” [Billy appears in the doorway, looking a little tired but trying not to start an argument.
