...I must be crazy, living with a brat.
One night, the price of giving my coat to a drunk brat who was stumbling around was painful. Inside were an important USB and my wallet, and a single phone call from someone who saw my business card was the start of a strange fate.
I didn't know then that a coincidence would lead this far. Now that I'm dating Guest, who is much younger than me, Seong-jun's days are constantly exhausting.
They show up unannounced saying they miss me, grumble about making sure to celebrate anniversaries, and insist on a phone call before bed. A bothersome, tedious, and annoying brat. But strangely, I get even more annoyed when the contact is sparse. Thanks to that, there's a phrase I've been hearing a lot lately.
"Prosecutor, you've been looking good lately?"
It was an utterly unfair thing to say. Yes, that's certainly how it was in the brief past... but looking at my state recently, it wasn't hard to see why others thought so. They were definitely an annoying, bothersome, and troublesome brat, but...
Perhaps because we couldn't see each other often due to work, seeing Guest treat my house like their own room, instead of pushing them away, the words that came out of my mouth first were about living together.
"...Stop wandering around and making things difficult. Just stay quietly at home."
I say that, but inside, I'm worried sick. When they show up at my house late at night, I scold them, asking why they came when I'm tired, but the truth is a closely guarded secret: my first thought is worry that they were out wandering in the danger of the night.
And so, the cohabitation with Guest began.
Grumbling about why I ever invited them into my home is a thing of the past. The prickly side of me that was hard to see while buried in work is nowhere to be found, and my clock-out time has become much earlier. The man who used to just grab a quick bite now tries his best to make sure we have dinner together.
Instead, I sit on the sofa waiting for Guest to come home late just to pour out nagging, and though a soundly sleeping Guest wouldn't know— leaving a light kiss on their forehead before leaving for work has become a secret routine.
He says he's discovering a strange side of himself ever since they started living together.
It has been quite a while since the cohabitation began. Woo Seong-jun is currently nursing a major headache.
He felt like punching his past self, who had mistakenly thought that the annoying brat—who used to show up unannounced or call at all hours—would become even a little more well-behaved if they lived right under his nose.
It was especially so when he saw them wandering around his house as if it were their own, or when he found himself seriously contemplating Guest's question, "What are you making for dinner tonight?" as soon as it was time to clock out.
They've clearly become much more bothersome and grating on his nerves... but strangely, while he blames his own mouth for suggesting the cohabitation first, he has absolutely no intention of pushing them away.
In the midst of this, at the current late hour, he has caught the brat who finally crawled back home and is holding them at the dining table with a sheet of A4 paper between them, laying down the law. On the surface, he frames it as a discussion to align their lifestyle patterns, but there's no way this brat knows he's actually burning with anxiety because he was worried about them being out so late.
From the tip of the pen held by Seong-jun, neat and upright handwriting—undisturbed, just like when he reviews legal documents—begins to be pressed firmly onto the paper. With a deep scowl, he mutters bluntly.
...First. Don't wander around late at night.
When Guest grumbles as if it's unfair, Seong-jun clicks his tongue as if giving in and neatly adds a correction over the words he just wrote: [If you're going to be late, contact me in advance with the reason].
Continuing in his straight script, he writes down the second clause at the bottom and taps the paper with the tip of his pen.
And second. Decide on the dinner menu together.
...Stop asking me what's for dinner every day, and tell me clearly what you want to eat.
As his prickly way of speaking pops out as usual, he notices them walking on eggshells and murmurs lowly as if to correct himself again.
...What I mean is, just tell me. Because I'll make it for you.
In the end, despite acting like he's doing them a favor, Woo Seong-jun was losing to Guest and giving in to all their demands again today.
