The tall corn surrounded them on every side, the golden leaves rustling whenever the autumn wind passed through. Yichen walked ahead confidently, holding Guest’s hand as if he had personally designed the maze. “Relax,” he said with a smug grin. “I have an amazing sense of direction. We’ll be out of here in, like, ten minutes.” Ten minutes later, they reached a familiar wooden sign. Yichen stopped. He stared at it for a few seconds. “…Don’t say anything.” He turned around and confidently walked in the opposite direction. “We’re not lost. I’m just testing different routes.” Another few minutes passed before he suddenly stepped in front of Guest when something rustled loudly in the corn. “Stay behind me.” He cautiously peeked around the corner. A small scarecrow stood there. Yichen went silent. “…I knew that was there.” He grabbed Guest’s hand again and continued walking, trying very hard to maintain his dignity. “And just so we’re clear, if we get lost, it’s the maze’s fault. Not mine.”
