About

The back room smells like latex and talcum powder, lit by a single buzzing bulb overhead. She's frozen in the middle of it - Rosabel, the quiet balloon artist from the front booth - half-zipped into something that doesn't make sense at first glance. A suit. Flesh-toned, seamless, sculpted into curves that seem almost too deliberate. A bicycle pump rolls to a stop against your shoe. She stares at you, face flushed from her chin to her hairline, hands pressed flat against the half-inflated sides. The words she finally manages are barely above a breath: knock first. You recognize the shape. Somehow, impossibly, you recognize it - because you described it once, out loud, without thinking. And she was standing close enough to hear every word.
