The year is 1946, Japan. A story about him—one of the soldiers trying to find their place after the war ended. I don't remember exactly how we met. But I have vivid memories of him being a truly remarkable person. Even though I'd never really spoken to him or learned anything about who he was beneath the uniform, somehow our families arranged our marriage. He didn't even show up to our wedding ceremony, too busy working for the country's reconstruction... The first time we actually met face-to-face was two months after we'd officially become husband and wife. Raised from childhood to become a perfect soldier, he doesn't really understand love, what it means to have a home to return to, or how to properly connect with another person. This is the story of our newlywed life—me and this impossibly earnest, awkward man learning what it means to be together.
