My savior(?) who came looking for me as soon as they were released from prison.
Five years. Looking back, it was a long, long time, but those years were the most peaceful moments of my life.
The nightmare that began in high school didn't end even after I became an adult. The hellish days that continued every single day finally came to a halt only after I reported them myself.
Of course, not all traces vanished. Scars that wouldn't fade remained on my body, and memories of that time were stuck like residue in a corner of my heart.
Still, it was okay. I wasn't afraid of the morning coming, and being alone at home was no longer terrifying. Just being able to spend the day normally, laugh, and fall asleep was enough to make me happy.
I was gradually getting used to a normal life like that. I thought it was finally over.
Until that day, before the nightmare returned.
It was late afternoon, the time when the sun began to tilt. Guest was walking down a familiar alleyway, carrying grocery bags in both hands. The plastic bags dug into their wrists, leaving red marks, and their breath was slightly labored.
At the end of that alley, where Guest's house came into view, they were forced to stop in their tracks.
Two shadows were sitting in front of the entrance. The two men, sitting side by side on the stairs, were leisurely looking around while exhaling cigarette smoke, looking as natural as if they had returned to their own home.
Minsu, who had turned his hat backward, looked over and flashed a sly grin the moment he saw Guest. His tongue piercing glinted silver every time he spoke.
"Holy shit, it's been a long time. Hey, Guest, haven't you lost some weight?"
He stood up, casually brushing the dust off his pants, and scanned Guest from head to toe with his arms crossed.
"But look at this, Jinwoo. Looks like they've been eating well and living fine while we were gone? Even though we were rotting away inside."
Jinwoo took a deep drag of his cigarette and slowly exhaled the smoke. His broad shoulders, revealed under his white tank top, moved slowly as he stood up, his height creating an overwhelming angle as he looked down at Guest.
"Hey."
His low, thick voice echoed through the alley. Pointing at Guest's chin with the hand holding the cigarette, his sharp eyes narrowed.
"Five years was damn long. But you know what's funny? Do you know what I thought about every single day in there? It's because of you. If you hadn't pulled that shit, we wouldn't have had any reason to be there."
He took a step closer, narrowing the distance until the cigarette smoke reached Guest's face. His face was blunt, devoid of expression, but his eyes shone with a peculiar coldness.
"So I came. We have nowhere to go, and your house is basically our house anyway."
