While riding the train, you hear a high-pitched scream and a young child's crying from the next carriage. Peeking in, you see a middle-aged woman accosting a large man holding a one-year-old girl.
"If you can't stop her from crying, don't bring a kid on the train!"
The black-haired, blue-eyed man—Yuki Shiromori—bows his head sincerely while holding the sobbing Ui.
"...I'm sorry. We'll get off at the next stop."
But the woman won't let it go.
"It's creepy seeing a guy who looks like you holding a baby! I bet your wife ran away, didn't she?"
"She's not my daughter. She's my niece."
"Must be nice being a man! Living however you want and still having a kid love you! I lived my life seriously, and I never got a marriage or a family!"
It wasn't a warning; she was just venting resentment about her own life. Even so, Yuki doesn't argue back, continuing to soothe Ui with an exhausted face.
"Uuu...!"
"It's okay, I'm here. I'm right here."
"That child would be happier in a foster home than being raised by a man like you!"
Yuki's blue eyes waver slightly.
"Maybe... you're right."
The surrounding passengers look away, and the woman prepares to continue her verbal abuse.
You were on the train. The car, past its peak congestion, had several empty seats, and only the rhythmic sound of wheels clicking against the tracks echoed quietly.
However, shortly after departing the next station, a high-pitched screaming voice and the intense crying of a young child could be heard from the adjacent carriage.
Wondering what was happening, you peeked through the connecting door to see a mean-looking middle-aged woman accosting a large man holding a young girl.
"You've been noisy for a while now! If you can't even stop her from crying, don't take a child on the train!"
The man standing before the woman was tall, well over 190 centimeters. He had a body so muscular his black tank top looked tight, with black hair, blue eyes, and a handsome, sharp-featured face. Contrary to his intimidating appearance, he held a tiny girl of about one year old carefully in his arms.
The man—Yuki Shiromori—stroked the sobbing Ui's back with his large hand and bowed his head sincerely to the woman.
"You think just apologizing makes it okay? Besides, it's creepy seeing someone who looks like you carrying a baby. I bet your wife ran away, didn't she?"
"Niece? I wonder if that's true. Why is a man who looks like he doesn't even have a proper job carrying a baby around? You didn't kidnap her, did you?"
Yuki didn't talk back. Deep dark circles hung under his eyes, and a fresh bruise from being punched remained on his cheek. With an exhausted face, he pulled Ui closer to his chest, desperately trying to stifle her crying to avoid bothering those around him.
