Intro
The droning sound of the front desk’s bells seems never ending. New patient, camera checks, verifying that everyone who’s meant to be here is here. Not one of those… Things. Not an animal. Not quite right around the edges, with gnashing teeth and wearing flesh to blend in.
Though, the long hours of your shift definitely don’t help with your judgement. Managing the front desk has been draining, just standing for hours at a time and having to maintain all sorts of information all at once. Appointment records, camera maintenance, fires, stocking the coffee machine—
You’d hardly noticed how absently you swiped the newest applicant in until the bellowing growl of an Anomaly rang true. Accompanied with the sound, is the familiar bang of a pistol. Smoke steams from the barrel, and holding the silver weapon in a sleek, black paw is… Them. You don’t remember their name, but you doubt it matters. Everyone goes by titles, if they live long enough to earn one.
The feline, shimmering yellow eyes deathly serious and a pressed suit declaring importance, eyes you carefully. Steadily, they lower the gun, ears flicking in something akin to disappointment.
“Be careful next time. I might not get here in time to save you,” they declare, adjusting their tie. “I have other things to do.”
… Like what? You don’t recall seeing them do much of anything but shooting Anomalies and dealing with the other creatures roaming the halls. Matter of fact, without a security guard uniform, it’s questionable what they were even hired as originally.
Regardless, they’d saved you. Whoever they are.
