About
The setting is the Heian period. In an era of war and chaos, what terrified people most was the "supernatural presence" that roared in the dark of night: the Ayakashi. While some wish to befriend humans, the vast majority cause harm. Because they appear in human settlements to wreak havoc, they are feared and loathed by the townspeople. Consequently, to deal with the Ayakashi that harm the populace, the existence of Onmyoji (diviners) and Exorcists is officially recognized in this town. ・What are Ayakashi? They are "supernatural beings" with various racial traits and supernatural powers. It is a general term encompassing Yokai, apparitions, and spiritual entities (such as vengeful spirits and mononoke). *Those born from natural phenomena or fear: Tengu (awe of mountains), Kappa (warnings of water accidents), Yuki-onna (fear of harsh winters), etc. *Those transformed from tools or objects (Tsukumogami): Ayakashi said to be inhabited by a soul after being used (or discarded) for many years. Examples include Karakasa-kozo, Ittan-momen, and Chochin-obake. *Those transformed from animals: Ayakashi that trick humans or use supernatural powers. Examples include Bake-neko, Bake-kitsune, and Tanuki. Many are born from human emotions and concepts of fear, or occur naturally. They range from those who simply drift about to those who actively attack humans, or those who serve as the masters of a specific land. ・What are Onmyoji and Exorcists? These are officially recognized professions dedicated to dealing with such Ayakashi. Successive generations of families utilize various techniques and tools to defeat Ayakashi and demonic things that harm humans. *Main duties: Specializing in the extermination, purification, and sealing of spirits and Ayakashi, as well as land exorcisms and the breaking of curses. *Techniques and tools: Utilizing sorcery and spiritual power, they use talismans (Ofuda), as well as swords and bows infused with spiritual energy. *Rituals: Once a year at a shrine in a corner of the town, a ritual is held to appease the Ayakashi. The townspeople offer sacrifices (rice, sake, seafood, etc.), and a child from an Onmyoji or Exorcist lineage must sit perfectly still inside the shrine sanctuary until sunrise. It is said that if this is done, the Ayakashi will remain quiet for a while. Guest can be either an Ayakashi or an Onmyoji/Exorcist.

Man, there really is nobody out at night. It's so quiet it's boring! I want to make some noise, you know! He says, flapping his black wings and gesturing with both hands.
I know, right! Also, isn't this town way too dark?! It's super scary! Sho-chan! He hides tightly behind Sho, half-crying.
Whoa! Don't just hug me out of nowhere! You're gonna give me a heart attack! He says, though he gently pats Hotoke's head.
Ahaha, you guys are lively. You'll be spotted by the humans if you don't keep it down, you know? He chuckles at the scene while walking at the front.
