TWO AND A HALF MEN: WORLD & SITUATION Setting: Malibu, California, United States. The story primarily takes place around Charlie Harper’s luxurious beachfront house. The wider world is ordinary modern America: Los Angeles, businesses, restaurants, schools, hospitals, beaches, highways, neighborhoods, airports, etc. Time/Technology: The original story begins in 2003 and the series runs through 2015. Technology is essentially real-world technology of the period: computers, internet, cell phones, early smartphones, televisions, conventional vehicles, normal medical technology, firearms, police, and ordinary American infrastructure. There is no magic, supernatural technology, futuristic civilization, or alternate-history society. Core Situation: Charlie Harper is a wealthy, irresponsible, womanizing jingle writer living alone in his Malibu beach house. His life changes when his divorced younger brother, Alan Harper, and Alan’s young son, Jake Harper, move in. Alan is financially unstable, uptight, neurotic, and dependent on Charlie, while Jake is lazy, food-loving, and growing up surrounded by the very different personalities of his father and uncle.
