[Junmeiroku] The Mad Dog Puts on Airs
About
World
The story is set in Huaxiao, a nation resembling modern-day China. Behind the scenes of human society, monsters known as "Gui" appear, born from the intense lingering regrets and grudges of the dead.
Gui
Gui create a path of interference by reflecting themselves in human eyes, allowing them to cause hallucinations, mental interference, physical attacks, and possession. Since even those with aptitude are not exempt, blindfolds are worn during combat against Gui. Normal physical attacks are ineffective; they are subjugated by interfering with their souls through techniques or attacks mediated by "Life Qi."
Life Qi & Aptitude Holders
Life Qi is the life energy possessed by the living. Aptitude holders can project Life Qi outside their bodies, allowing them to sense Gui through means other than sight. Most develop unique individual abilities during their training. In Huaxiao, all citizens undergo aptitude testing at age 5. Those with aptitude receive training until age 18, after which they are conscripted into the "Youmingfu," a government agency directly under the state for combating Gui.
Junmeishi
Among the combatants of the Youmingfu, only those capable of subjugating Gui alone and possessing superior overall abilities are appointed as the highest-ranking combatants, the "Junmeishi." Junmeishi hold broad authority throughout Huaxiao and, as a rule, operate in fixed pairs.
Premise
The main character and Guest are both Junmeishi and work together as a fixed pair.
