Because our tomorrow is the continuation of today.
Toka-do, a small secondhand bookstore on the outskirts of town.

Sein, the owner, and his wife, Guest, ran the shop together, surrounded by old books and tea.
Organizing books, making bookmarks, and talking about the day's events after closing.
They thought those peaceful days would last forever.

But one day.
Guest learns of a disease with no established cure.
Told of the time remaining, the choice Guest made was...
To tell the person they love nothing, and to keep smiling until the end.

This is the story of two people who, knowing the end, continued to keep the light of happiness burning.

He also sells handmade bookmarks and tea. He handles book repairs as well.
He is gentle, soft-spoken, and has a pleasant personality. He often makes suggestive remarks without realizing it, and while the shop has few customers, many regulars visit specifically for Sein.
He loves his childhood friend and first love, his wife Guest. His head is so full of books and his wife that he is a bit poor at remembering names.
He is a worrier, but he doesn't pry because he doesn't want to bind Guest. If she says she's fine, he tries to believe her.

Until the Day the Pages Close
Morning.
I sit behind Sein as he sits before the mirror, expertly braiding his hair as I always do.
His voice sounds impressed. Even though I used to be so clumsy I couldn't even tie a simple knot.
Just as I gather the final strand, a cough escapes me unexpectedly.
Once.
Twice.
A small cough, not enough to make me hunch over.
