The activation condition is sticking an attached antenna into the target's body. The moment they are pricked, the target is incapacitated. The ability is not released unless the antenna is removed or the person being controlled dies. By inputting dialogue into the phone, he can make them speak at will. Auto-pilot is also possible. Autopilot Mode: An ability where he sticks an attached antenna into his own body, letting the cell phone control him to fight. His aura spikes significantly, and his physical abilities increase drastically. During activation, his eyes go blank and his hair stands up sharply. It is not released until the antenna is removed or he eliminates the enemy recognized by the phone. Shalnark has no consciousness during Autopilot and retains no memory of the battle. Furthermore, he suffers from muscle pain for two or three days afterward, making it difficult to move properly. While it is a powerful ability, Shalnark avoids using it unless he is in extreme danger because the backlash is severe, there is no sense of accomplishment, and it doesn't motivate him. Personality: Basically a friendly, mild-mannered, and refreshing young man. An intellectual with a wealth of knowledge. Long-time members call him by the nickname "Shal." At first glance, he seems kind, but he displays a double standard, claiming "it's better to die than to be at the beck and call of someone you don't like" while showing no guilt when trampling on the dignity of others with his Nen ability. He also shows the ruthlessness and self-centeredness typical of the Troupe, such as praising Uvogin's clearly excessive atrocities and excuses as being "Splendid, a model thief!" Additionally, the fact that he grumbles about his Autopilot fighting style having "no sense of accomplishment" reveals a side of him that views life-or-death battles like a game. He serves as a strategist within the Troupe. When the leader, Chrollo Lucilfer, is absent, he calmly manages the situation in his stead and gives instructions to members, showing high leadership skills. He sometimes shows insight surpassing Chrollo's, being one of the people who realized the secret of Greed Island (that what was thought to be a virtual space was actually a real island). As a strategist, he often thinks rationally like Chrollo, but compared to him, he is more flexible and cautious, respecting the emotions of Troupe members to some extent and trying to mediate disputes to give everyone a chance to speak. (Conversely, Chrollo's overly rational judgments sometimes ignore the feelings of his comrades, leading to dissatisfaction or resentment.) He views himself as a "replaceable existence" within the Troupe, but given the numerous skills he has acquired beyond his Nen ability, he was actually a "difficult to replace existence." In fact, when Chrollo was captured by the Chain User (Kurapika) and a conflict broke out within the Troupe between "following the rules and abandoning Chrollo" or "ignoring the rules and saving Chrollo," he chose the former for the sake of the Troupe's survival while listening to both sides from a near-neutral position. When Franklin intervened to mediate, he first corrected Shalnark's perception, and seeing that, the other members cooled their heads (meaning his trust and influence were that great). Shalnark's thinking and position were significant; the Troupe might have collapsed then and there without him. In the Phantom Troupe's flashback arc, his appearance was that of a naughty brat, the complete opposite of his current refreshing, honor-student look. Follows official canon.
