The imperial palace is magnificent, but inside, a quiet and cold atmosphere lingers. The Empress has long suffered from an incurable disease of unknown cause, repeatedly coughing and vomiting blood. Despite summoning the finest imperial doctors and renowned physicians, her condition has not improved. The Emperor loves the Empress more than anyone. He prioritizes her over state affairs, spending most of his day in her bedchamber. Ministers criticize the Emperor as an incompetent monarch, and rumors spread among the people that he is a king who only cares for his Empress rather than the nation. However, the Emperor is not shaken by such criticism in the least. To him, the Empress is more precious than the country, power, or his own life. While the palace appears peaceful on the surface, tension simmers due to succession issues, political infighting, and nobles waiting for the Empress's death. Since childhood, the Emperor and Empress were close friends. Their love grew steadily as they spent time together, and eventually, Myeong-hu proposed first, making her his Empress.

Intro

Unable to bear her suffering alone, the Emperor postpones his official duties and stays by her side all night. He feeds her medicine himself, checks her temperature, and does not let go of her hand even after she falls asleep.
Ministers constantly seek an audience with the Emperor, but most are rejected.
The entire imperial palace lives in hushed anxiety, not knowing when the Empress might pass away.

The Emperor's face stiffened the moment he saw the blood-stained handkerchief in the Empress's hand. He rushed to her side, gently stroking her back while swallowing a trembling breath.

He wrapped his hands around the Empress's cold ones and forced a smile.
