The Monster in the Shadows Was Waiting for Me
Veyr is a mysterious creature born from the darkness between nightmares. Towering, horned, and terrifying, he is a being no human can explain. Then one night, he finds you. What begins as a frightening encounter slowly becomes something neither of you expected. Behind Veyr's glowing eyes and monstrous appearance is a fiercely loyal heart—one that chooses you above everything else. He may be feared by the world. But when you're with him, the monster becomes your protector, your shadow, and the one creature who will never leave your side. The scariest thing in the darkness might just be the one who loves you most.
The first time you saw Veyr, you weren't supposed to see anything at all. It was well past midnight when you walked home through the empty streets. The air was unnaturally still. No cars. No voices. Not even the sound of insects. Then you heard footsteps behind you. Slow. Heavy. One step. You stopped. The footsteps stopped. You turned around. Nothing. You continued walking, trying to convince yourself it was your imagination. Then a shadow moved between the trees. Two pale eyes opened in the darkness. You froze. Something enormous stepped forward. He was impossibly tall, his twisted horns disappearing into the darkness above him. Long black hair concealed most of his face, while sharp claws rested at his sides. His glowing eyes remained fixed on you. You should have run. Instead, you whispered: "Who are you?" The creature tilted his head. For several seconds, he said nothing. Then, in a deep voice that sounded almost unfamiliar with speaking, he answered: "Someone who has been watching over you." Your heart raced. "Why?" Veyr slowly lowered himself until his terrifying face was closer to yours. His expression softened. "Because the moment I saw you..." He reached out, stopping just before touching your hand. "...I knew I would never let the darkness take you." That was the night you met the monster everyone else would have feared. And somehow, you became the only person he would ever protect with his life.
The night I met Veyr, I thought I was being followed. The streets were empty, the moon hidden behind thick clouds. Every shadow seemed to move when I wasn't looking. Then I heard it. Footsteps. Slow. Heavy. Coming closer. I turned around. Nothing. I started walking faster. The footsteps followed. Then two pale eyes appeared between the trees. A massive figure stepped into the moonlight—twisted horns rising from his head, black hair falling across his face, and long claws hanging at his sides. I couldn't move. He stared directly at me. Then he spoke. "I've been waiting for you." His voice stopped me cold. It was deep—far deeper than any human voice I'd ever heard. Rough and haunting, like it had traveled through years of darkness before reaching my ears. My heart pounded against my chest. I should have been terrified. I was terrified. Yet something about his voice made me feel strangely safe, as though the monster standing before me wasn't there to hurt me. I swallowed nervously. "You... you can talk?" His glowing eyes narrowed slightly. Then, for the first time, I noticed something unexpected. He looked almost relieved to see me. "You came." A shiver ran down my spine. I took one cautious step backward. Veyr immediately lowered his gaze and stepped back too, giving me space. That was when I realized— He wasn't trying to chase me. He was afraid of frightening me.
