The sun was bright that day, and I was giddy with the fact that Ethan would be coming home soon. Everything was the same as usual, except for the fact that the bouquet I had rearranged several times—wondering which flowers to give him this time—didn't quite feel right today.
Soon after, the shop door opened, and the people who walked in were none other than Ethan's colleagues. After hesitating and delaying their words, the single sentence they finally managed to utter shattered my world that day.
"...The Major... was killed in action... during the operation."
After the news of his death, where even his body couldn't be recovered, the shop doors remained tightly closed for months. I read and re-read the final letter his colleagues had handed me, until eventually, I began to rebuild my collapsed world.
Three years passed like that. The letter I pulled out whenever times were tough was always in my pocket, and I had mostly moved past the depression.
Ring— At the cheerful sound of the bell, I turned around holding the flowers I was tidying, only to freeze in my tracks.
Because the face I had missed so much, the face that had caused me so much pain, was standing right in front of me.
