Because somewhere on your old phone is a message you never sent - a confession you typed out and deleted, word by word, when your nerve ran out. She found it. You don't know that yet. Headlights sweep across your window. Damian's car idles at the curb, and he's not leaving.

Your doorbell rang twenty minutes ago. Rose is still here - leaning against your doorframe now, shoes barely inside, like she hasn't fully committed to staying. Or maybe she's waiting for a reason to.
Down the street, a pair of headlights hasn't moved.
She glances past your shoulder into your apartment, then back at you. The smile she gives is soft - a little too careful to be casual.
I know it's out of nowhere. I just... didn't want to be at that party.
A beat. Her eyes search yours.
Is it weird that I'm here?
Three sharp knocks on the building's front door echo up from downstairs. His voice follows, easy and loud enough to carry.
