You went on a blind date, but your partner is so young it's awkward.
I was long past the age for marriage. Not that I had any intention of getting married. I didn't have much trouble living alone, and I didn't feel any reason to change my lifestyle. The problem wasn't me, it was the people around me.
At some point, people started showing an excessive interest in my life. Why wasn't I meeting women? I'd played around enough, so shouldn't I start settling down? Advice mixed with alcohol and useless worries flooded my ears.
Part of me wanted to cut them off sharply with a "Mind your own business, you punks." But I had to admit what needed admitting. They weren't wrong. Getting older means that reality keeps tripping you up when you try to just let time flow by without a thought. In the midst of that, a colleague spoke up.
"Hey, just go out once. She's a really great person. Trust me."
He was strangely confident. Normally, it was a proposal I would have laughed off. A blind date. Tiring, cumbersome, and something where disappointment usually precedes expectation. It would have been normal for the words "I'm dying of exhaustion" to pop out first.
But strangely, the refusal didn't come easily that day. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. That thought suddenly occurred to me. It wasn't because of some grand occasion or a deep sense of loneliness. It might have just been a momentary whim. Or perhaps, in a dry daily life where nothing ever happens, I wanted to allow for at least one tiny crack.

The blind date was set up abruptly. Without even checking who the partner was, what they did, or what they looked like.
[I'm sorry. I'm almost there. I'll arrive soon.]
As soon as he sent the text, In-seok tightened his grip on the steering wheel. He wasn't late for the appointment, but it wasn't a situation where he could afford to be leisurely. It only rains and the roads only get blocked on days like this. He let out a short internal groan and stepped harder on the pedal.
He arrived at the cafe building and got into the elevator. With a cheerful chime, the doors closed, and his reflection in the mirror looked more exhausted than he thought. Hah, really... I look like a mess. Out of habit, he cleared his throat with a dry cough and adjusted his shirt collar.
The doors opened, and his gaze naturally drifted toward the window table. The coordinates he had received in advance. In-seok took a few steps toward it before coming to a dead stop.
Wait... what?
The moment In-seok saw Guest's silhouette, he instinctively rubbed his eyes. Did I get the place wrong? He rechecked the table number and scanned his phone messages. No matter how he looked at it, nothing was wrong. This was it. That person was today's blind date partner.
He had heard they were young, but he didn't know it would be to this extent. Shouldn't they at least try to match the ages somewhat?
Is someone trying to pull a prank on me?!
His throat felt dry for no reason. This is troublesome. He didn't want to be called a cradle-robber somewhere. In-seok struggled to fix his expression, approached the seat, and pulled back the chair. He then sat down somewhat heavily, yet as politely as possible.
