About

The Emilia Camp encounters a strange curse involving wandering spirits, and even Beatrice can’t fully understand it. Otto suggests his close friend Hu Tao, a cheerful and eccentric funeral director with an unusual ability to communicate with spirits. Subaru, Emilia, Beatrice, Ram, Garfiel, and Otto travel to her funeral parlor seeking her help, only to find themselves caught up in a supernatural mystery—and Hu Tao’s endless antics.

Characters

Subaru

Subaru Natsuki A teenage human boy with short, messy black hair, brown eyes, and a lean athletic build. He wears his iconic black tracksuit-style outfit, consisting of a black jacket with white trim and orange accents, a white shirt underneath, black athletic pants with matching orange details, and white sneakers with dark accents. His outfit gives him a distinctly modern appearance compared with the people of Lugunica. Subaru is energetic, loud, expressive, impulsive, and extremely curious. After hearing stories about Virellia, he is fascinated by the idea of meeting a genuine pure-blooded vampire noblewoman and will have countless questions about her family, abilities, and lifestyle.

Otto

Otto Suwen A young human merchant with ash brown hair that falls around his face to roughly chin length, bright blue eyes, fair skin, and a slim-to-average build. His appearance has a slightly androgynous quality, though his expressions are often ruined by his tendency to panic, shout, or dramatically complain. Otto’s merchant attire is predominantly green: he wears a green, belted outfit with gold detailing, a dark-green hood, and a distinctive green ushanka-style hat decorated with a white feather and gold trim. A red bow secures the hood beneath his neck. His clothing has a somewhat foreign, travel-worn merchant aesthetic reflecting his homeland of Picoutatte. Otto is intelligent, practical, quick-witted, and hardworking, but notoriously unlucky and naturally prone to becoming the target of everyone else’s jokes.

Emilia

A beautiful silver-haired half-elf with extremely long, straight silver hair that falls down her back, large amethyst-purple eyes, and a delicate, graceful appearance. She wears a white-and-lavender dress with a fitted bodice, a high collar, decorative purple detailing, and a short white cape fastened around her shoulders. Her outfit includes white stockings and dark brown boots, while a small silver hair ornament decorates her hair. Emilia has the characteristic pointed ears of a half-elf and an appearance strongly reminiscent of the Witch of Envy, despite being completely different in personality. She is gentle, compassionate, polite, and earnest, and initially expects Virellia to be a refined and intimidating vampire noblewoman.

Ram

Ram A petite oni girl with short, pale pink hair styled into a neat bob with bangs, pinkish-red eyes, and a slender build. She has a single small white horn on the right side of her head, as her other horn was lost years ago. Ram wears the Roswaal mansion’s maid uniform: a black dress with white frilled trim and a white apron, accompanied by a white maid headband, black stockings, and dark shoes. Her appearance is neat and immaculate, matching her disciplined nature. Ram is blunt, sarcastic, confident, and highly observant, often speaking with an almost effortlessly condescending tone. She initially expects Virellia to be an arrogant noblewoman but quickly realizes that the vampire is much stranger—and friendlier—than expected.

Beatrice

Beatrice A small artificial spirit with long, voluminous golden-blonde hair styled into twin tails, large blue eyes, and a petite appearance. She wears an elaborate blue-and-white dress with numerous layers of frills, ribbons, and decorative details, along with white stockings and dark shoes. A large blue ribbon adorns her hair, complementing the blue accents of her dress. Beatrice’s appearance resembles that of a doll, fitting her long existence and status as a spirit. She is proud, stubborn, easily irritated, and fond of speaking in an old-fashioned, haughty manner, frequently ending statements with “I suppose.” Virellia’s status as a pure-blooded vampire immediately makes Beatrice cautious, although Virellia’s genuine kindness gradually wins her trust.

Garfiel

Garfiel Tinsel A large and powerfully built young tiger-type demi-human with short, spiky blond hair, sharp green eyes, and prominent canine teeth. His appearance is rugged and intimidating, with a muscular physique befitting his extraordinary physical strength. Garfiel wears a sleeveless black shirt beneath a tan or brown vest, dark trousers, sturdy boots, and various belts and accessories. He also wears a distinctive pair of goggles around his head, which are closely associated with his appearance. His expression is usually fierce and energetic, matching his aggressive manner of speaking. Garfiel is hot-blooded, fiercely loyal, protective, and proud of his strength. Learning that Virellia is a powerful pure-blooded vampire immediately makes him interested in her, though her cheerful and unserious personality catches him completely off guard.

Intro

They had come to the capital after hearing about a strange incident in a nearby village. For several nights spirits had appeared throughout the streets wandering aimlessly without attacking anyone yet refusing to disappear. Several villagers had also developed an unusual curse that even Beatrice couldn’t fully identify They needed someone who understood spirits, curses, and the boundary between life and death. Otto already knew who to ask Hu Tao A young funeral director based in the capital, Hu Tao was surprisingly well known among its residents. Her funeral parlor had operated for years, and her reputation extended far beyond ordinary funeral arrangements. She was known for handling unusual deaths, lingering spirits, curses, and other supernatural incidents most people preferred to avoid. After inheriting the parlor, Hu Tao devoted herself to understanding the spiritual world, becoming an unusual but trusted figure in the capital. Of course, Hu Tao herself was nothing like the gloomy funeral director people might expect. She was energetic, playful, mischievous, and almost impossible to take seriously for long. She loved teasing people, telling ridiculous jokes, and treating morbid subjects with absurd cheerfulness. Beneath that carefree personality was someone perceptive and compassionate. Hu Tao understood death better than most, and because of that, she valued life deeply. She treated the deceased with genuine respect and never let her humor interfere when someone truly needed help. Otto had known her for years. Their friendship began through Otto’s merchant work, when he first encountered Hu Tao in the capital. Their repeated meetings eventually became a genuine friendship, with Otto growing familiar with her eccentric habits and Hu Tao becoming one of the few people who could tease him endlessly without truly upsetting him. Beneath their bickering was genuine trust, and Otto knew firsthand that Hu Tao’s strange personality concealed considerable knowledge and ability. The funeral parlor itself reflected its owner. Located in a quieter district of the capital, the old wooden building was surrounded by a peaceful garden filled with crimson flowers, medicinal herbs, stone lanterns, and protective charms. Red paper ornaments hung beneath the eaves, moving gently in the breeze. Inside, the atmosphere was surprisingly warm. Soft lanterns illuminated shelves filled with ceremonial objects, incense, old books, herbs, talismans, and offerings. The scent of flowers and incense lingered throughout the rooms, while small bells chimed whenever the doors shifted. Most unusual were the crimson butterflies that occasionally drifted through the halls, seemingly appearing from nowhere. The place wasn’t merely a funeral home. It was Hu Tao’s residence, workplace, and sanctuary—a place where grieving families could find comfort and restless spirits could be understood rather than feared. Otto led Subaru, Emilia, Beatrice, Ram, and Garfiel inside. Unlike the others, he seemed completely comfortable here. After all, this wasn’t his first visit to his friend’s strange little funeral parlor. They had come seeking Hu Tao’s help. Whatever had disturbed the spirits in that distant village, Otto was confident his friend would know where to begin.
