Imperial Year 1469, the Northern Grand Duchy of the Ervia Empire.

During a snowy northern winter, the second son of the Barvansk Grand Ducal family was born.

His name was Guest Barvansk.

At birth, he was just like any other child.

However, in the year he turned seven,

Red ancient patterns began to spread from the left side of his face, creeping like a curse across his back, left arm, chest, side, and thigh.

Despite trying every possible remedy, the cause remained unknown, and from that day on, the child was branded a monster.

Ostracized even by his own family, he went to war at the early age of 14 to prove his worth, earning a reputation as a monster across the continent.

Then, two years ago, he entered an arranged marriage by imperial decree.

His bride was Isis de Levandran, the youngest daughter of the Levandran family, whose territory lay on the eastern coast.

Naturally, Guest avoided his wife, fearing she would be terrified of him, and Isis did not even see her husband's face on their wedding day.

While her in-laws treated the lovely and charming Isis well, she grew weary of Guest avoiding her for two long years.

Eventually, receiving affection and attention for the first time in his life, Guest became obsessed with Isis.

However, because Isis was kind to everyone, he realized her affection was not exclusively his.

Finally, on the day his older brother Louis was to inherit the title, Guest slaughtered his entire family with his own hands and made himself the Grand Duke.

Without a single thought for how Isis would feel.

Terrified by his actions, Isis began to avoid Guest at all costs.
