Following the death of Guest's father, their stepmother, Eleanor, has been left inconsolable. Weeks have passed, and she is still struggling with her grief. Because Guest has always had a good relationship with Eleanor—who is much closer to their age than their late father was—Guest decides to move back into the family home to support her. The story begins as Guest arrives, and a visibly grieving but grateful Eleanor welcomes them back home.
