One day, a Kaiju with the highest Fortitude in history appeared in Japan. Its Fortitude was 10.3, making it virtually impossible to subjugate. Despite desperate attempts to hold onto hope and take it down until the very end, subjugation proved impossible. With almost every unit on the brink of annihilation, the number of survivors when the dust settled was fewer than 45. Hoshina Soshiro, Narumi Gen, Ashiro Mina, Shinomiya Kikoru, Hoshina Soichiro, and only a few others remained, and even they were in terrible condition. Soshiro was at risk of losing his right arm. Soichiro was at risk of losing his left arm and right leg. Narumi was blinded in his left eye. Ashiro suffered a fatal abdominal wound. Kikoru was at risk of losing her right leg and suffered from excessive bleeding. These were just the major injuries; their overall conditions were even worse. Japan was already devastated, and the Defense Force had lost all public trust and support. Just as everyone's last shred of hope was being replaced by despair, the Kaiju self-destructed. Given its Fortitude of 10.3, any officers caught in the blast would have died instantly. Some were buried under the rubble of surrounding buildings caused by the explosion. Even for those who survived, and even though the Daikaiju was gone, the fallen comrades would never return. The lost trust and public sentiment were gone for good. With Japan in ruins, there was nothing left to protect. Not the fellow officers, not the peaceful streets of Japan, nor the shattered trust, faith, and support for the Defense Force. About three months passed, and eventually, the Defense Force was disbanded. There was no trust left, and since that Kaiju appeared, only weak ones that could be handled even with low unleashed combat power showed up, making the organization's existence meaningless.
Characters
The Captain of the First Division, known as the strongest in Japan. He usually lives in the Captain's office, but he is a total otaku whose room is a mess of trash, filled with his hobbies of gaming and plastic models. He leads a rather pathetic lifestyle, often performing dogeza to his subordinate Kikoru to borrow money when he runs out, or skipping meetings and ignoring Defense Force summons. He is a man full of flaws. However, his skills as a Captain are the real deal, overturning all these flaws with overwhelming power. During missions, he changes 180 degrees, becoming cold-blooded and dedicated, giving specific orders to his subordinates. GS-3305: The bayonet Narumi uses as a weapon. It is several times larger than a standard bayonet and features a blade that burns the cut surface as it slices. Numbers 1 & RT-01: A suit made from the remains of Kaiju No. 1 and lenses crafted from No. 1's retinas.
The Vice-Captain of the Third Division. A member of the Hoshina family, a lineage of Kaiju hunters dating back to the Muromachi period. In the Defense Force, where long-range weapons are standard, he uses swords as his primary weapon because his unleashed combat power with firearms is low. He utilizes Hoshina-style Subjugation Arts in battle. His combat suit unleashed rate was 92% early on, the third highest at the time, showing incredible speed that Kafka described as not being human movement. He usually has a smiling face, but it's hard to see him smile now. He hails from the Kansai region and speaks in a dialect. SW-2033: Two swords used by Soshiro. They are roughly the length of short swords, sharp and highly durable.
The Captain of the Third Division. Hibino Kafka's childhood friend. After their town was destroyed by a Kaiju when they were young, she vowed to become a Defense Force officer with Kafka. While Kafka failed to join, she passed and rose to the rank of Captain through sheer skill, boasting a record of subjugating hundreds of Kaiju. A sharpshooter who snipes and subjugates large Kaiju from a distance. Her unleashed combat power is 96%. She appears cold and taciturn on the outside, but she is actually very considerate and kind-hearted, deeply valuing her subordinates. T-25101985: A massive cannon with incredible power. Used to take down large Kaiju, it has the strength to blow them to pieces in just a few shots.
The daughter of Defense Force Director Shinomiya Isao and the former Captain of the Second Division, Shinomiya Hikari. At the age of 16, she skipped grades at the California Subjugation University and graduated at the top of her class, called the greatest talent in history. She is arrogant and prideful but also possesses a kind heart that values her comrades. She always acts according to the Shinomiya family creed of being perfect. Numbers 4: A suit made from the remains of Kaiju No. 4. The only Numbers suit with flight capabilities and the fastest of them all. AX-0112: Kikoru's dedicated weapon, a battle axe. AX-0113: The battle axe Kikoru uses after AX-0112 was destroyed.
The current Captain of the Sixth Division. A pivotal figure in the Western Division, said to be the western equivalent of Narumi Gen in the east. Evaluated as the perfected form of the Hoshina family and the next head of the clan, he was a constant point of comparison for his younger brother since childhood. However, at present, while his overall combat power is higher, he seems to be surpassed by his brother in close-quarters combat. Perhaps due to his teasing when they were young, they are currently out of contact as adults.
