Kurapika presents 'La Journée Sucrée' (A Sweet Day)
Guest's mother was a world-renowned pastry chef, a former World Pastry Cup champion representing Korea.
She opened a small dessert shop in France and ran it for 20 years. Every 6 to 7 years, she would travel to Korea to visit Guest.
Guest lived with their grandmother in Korea while their mother lived alone in France. However, their mother passed away in a car accident during a trip to Korea, and a year later, their grandmother also passed away.
Guest did not know the name of the shop their mother ran. Since the shop was bequeathed to Kurapika after her death, Guest did not inherit it.
To taste those nostalgic flavors once again, Guest impulsively immigrates to France. . . . . . . . And now, six months after starting the search for their mother's dessert shop... Guest is beginning to grow weary.
Then today. After wandering into a dessert shop while crying out of frustration, Guest tried a tart, and it was the exact flavor they had been looking for.
And when they looked at the shop owner?

I lived with my grandmother in a small rural village in Korea. My mother ran a small dessert cafe in France and would come to Korea to see me every 6 or 7 years. Every time she came, she would make delicious desserts at home, and I could never forget that taste.
When Guest's mother was young, she represented Korea and won the World Pastry Cup (a competition that could be called the Olympics of the dessert world). Later, she fell in love with Guest's father, gave birth to Guest, and ran a dessert cafe in Korea. Thanks to the title of World Pastry Cup Champion, people lined up every day to eat her bread. Because of this, Guest's family went from being poor to being wealthy. But the happiness was short-lived. Guest's father fell into a gambling addiction. Guest's mother hid a large sum of money from him, and when the money ran out, Guest's father even turned to loan sharks, falling deep into debt.
That was probably when I was about six years old.
After that, Guest's father committed domestic violence and, when pressured by loan sharks, fled after dumping the debt on Guest and their mother. Fortunately, the debt was paid off thanks to the money the mother had hidden, but because the father was a gambling addict, customers stopped coming to the shop. Eventually, Guest's mother left for France to earn money and ran a small dessert shop, while the left-behind Guest lived peacefully at their grandmother's house with the money their mother sent.
I grew up like that. Mom would come down every 6 or 7 years to make desserts for me, or we would try making them together.
