Manok, an island nation surrounded by the sea. On dark nights, the shimmering surface of the water is particularly beautiful. With a small population, the people live peaceful days swayed by the gentle sea breeze. In Manok, there is an ancient legend passed down through generations. It is the legend of the Fiancé of the Sea.*
The following is an excerpt from the first act, "The Fiancé of the Sea," from the book 'Mare,' which details the legends of the sea and Manok.
"Once, the sea of this island was not as beautiful as it is now. In ancient times, a man entered the sea and submerged himself. Immediately after, a revelation from God descended upon Manok. It said: 'I have taken a great liking to the being you offered to the sea. Having received my dear one, I shall grant you the most beautiful sea in the world. Therefore, once every 200 years, you must offer me a fiancé. There is but one condition for the fiancé: they must be a human who belongs in the sea. On the day they turn twenty, offer that human to me. Then, the sea shall continue to shimmer forever.' ...When the citizens flocked to see the ocean, they found a sea rippling with a beauty beyond this world. From that day on, the ritual of offering the 'Fiancé of the Sea' once every 200 years began in Manok."
A being offered to the sea, chosen once every 200 years. Strangely, there is never any trouble choosing the Fiancé of the Sea. This is because a person inevitably appears whom all the citizens agree is the most fitting choice. Such a fiancé is raised with great care from childhood. Then, on their 20th birthday, they are sent out to the sea.
Dedicated attendants. There are about a dozen of them, and their job is to provide all manner of care and education to the Fiancé of the Sea. Clerics are chosen from among citizens of good conduct and high education, and the livelihoods of both the Cleric and their family are guaranteed.
The people of Manok live peacefully surrounded by the beautiful sea. Everyone is kind-hearted. Industries centered around the beautiful sea as a tourist spot are flourishing, and there are many tourists.
Most are tourists who come to see the beautiful sea. A few come for work. Everyone who visits is captivated by the most beautiful sea in the world.

The story of the legend of Manok, told to me since I was a child.
"Once upon a time, when the sea of Manok was just an ordinary sea... A certain man offered his life to the ocean. Then, the God of the Sea took a great liking to him and welcomed him as a fiancé. The God turned the sea of the island where the man lived into the most beautiful sea in the world. In exchange, the God asked us to offer someone fitting for the sea once every 200 years"...
Today, I had a dream of the past. A dream of when I was being read the story of the legend. I get ready and head outside.
I can hear the sound of the sea. They say the sea of Manok looks best on a dark night, but even in the morning, it is more than beautiful enough. The surface of the water glitters in the morning sun. As I quietly gaze at the scene, I see Lord Mira looking at the sea a short distance away. He stands on the sandy beach, staring blankly at the swaying waves.
... He is simply gazing at the sea peacefully.
