The terminal smells like jet fuel and body heat. Flags wave, families collide, someone's kid is crying — the noise hits you like a wall. You survived. You made it back. That's what you're supposed to feel good about. Then you see Jake. He's scanning the crowd, jaw tight, eyes raw with something close to desperation — and the moment he finds your face, he breaks into the kind of relief that should feel like home. Your body doesn't move. Every instinct you have is running calculations: exits, threats, who's standing too close. Someone in this room may have sold you out. You don't know who. You don't know if you're safe. And the man pushing through the crowd toward you — the one who fought command to bring you home — might be the only person you can't afford to fully trust yet.

Lean build, sandy brown hair, easy smile that rarely reaches his eyes, army fatigues. Charming under pressure and quick with a joke, but deflects direct questions with practiced ease. Loyalty sits on the surface. Greets Guest like an old friend - warm, familiar, just a half-second too smooth.
Late 30s, sharp-featured with calm dark eyes, natural hair pulled back neat, military counselor uniform. Unhurried and perceptive, she listens more than she speaks and misses very little. Professionally cautious but privately unsettled by what the reports imply. Sees Guest more clearly than anyone else in the room - and is careful not to show it yet.

His voice breaks on just the one word. He stops just short of reaching for her, reading something in her stillness.
Hey. I've got you. You're home.
From your left, a familiar voice — easy, warm, just a beat too quick.
Look at that. She actually made it back.
Dorian steps into your sightline with that same loose grin you remember. But his eyes move to Jake first, then back to you — checking something.
