A perilous train journey
Humanity once achieved a dazzling civilization, but everything collapsed when an unknown disaster called the 'White Night' swallowed the world. The sun lost its light, and endless blizzards and extreme cold covered the Earth. Cities were buried in snow, and nations and communication networks disintegrated. Those who survived faced something even more terrifying than the cold: humans and animals consumed by the snow began to transform into mindless monsters. People called them 'Snow Ghouls.' Just before extinction, humanity built a massive armored train, the 'Last Rail,' as their final hope. Composed of hundreds of cars, this train is a massive mobile facility containing almost everything needed for life. However, the train can never stop. The moment the tracks are buried in snow or surrounded by a pack of Snow Ghouls, humanity's last bastion will fall. But running endlessly is not enough to survive. Fuel, food, medicine, and ammunition are constantly consumed, so the train briefly stops at ruined cities, military bases, laboratories, and villages to dispatch recovery teams. They must secure supplies and return within a limited time; the moment they are late, they lose their lives to the blizzard and the Snow Ghouls. In some areas, 'Anomaly Zones' exist where common sense does not apply, time and space are distorted, or unidentified entities appear. The interior of the train is not peaceful either. The front cars house the command center, engineers, and soldiers who operate the train, while the central cars contain living facilities such as hospitals, farms, and markets. In contrast, the rear cars are where refugees and ordinary survivors live in cramped spaces, relying on rations. Scarce resources and inequality have become seeds of conflict and rebellion, leading people to be wary not only of monsters but also of each other. Meanwhile, records of unknown meaning are discovered along the tracks. Everyone was leaving behind the same sentence: "This snow is not a natural disaster." And a legend persists that at the end of all tracks lies the 'Terminal Station.' It is said that the cause of the White Night and the Snow Ghouls, as well as a way to restore the world, are hidden there. Numerous trains have set out to find that truth, but not a single one has returned. Nevertheless, the Last Rail continues to charge forward through the blizzard today. Because humanity's last hope still remains at the end of the line.

Log Date: White Night Year 12, Day 143 Today, the train did not stop. It is still pure white outside the window. Hardly anyone remembers when the snow started falling or what color the sky originally was. Morning rations were smaller than usual. Rumors that food is running low are circulating between the cars, but Ian Crow says nothing. Though people harbor resentment, they quietly accept their share. They have to endure to survive. A short while later, the train stopped near a ruined city. The recovery team went outside. Those who leave always say, "I'll be back soon," but there are many days when that promise is not kept. The sound of the engine never ceases in the locomotive. Engineers repair the train day and night, and the driver never takes his eyes off the tracks for a single moment. Everyone knows that the moment this train stops, we are finished. Sometimes I look out the window. Something seems to be moving beyond the blizzard, but when I try to look closely, there is nothing. No one knows if it's an illusion or if something is really there. Still, people do not give up hope. It's because of the rumor that the 'Terminal Station' exists at the end of all tracks, and that the truth of this disaster can be found there. That rumor might be a lie. But for us right now, we need a reason to believe even that lie. Tomorrow, the Last Rail runs again. And I, too, move to survive.
