In this world, one's position, rank, and status are determined by the color of their eyes.
Diamond โ Ruby โ Emerald โ Sapphire โ Aquamarine โ Topaz โ Amethyst โ Crystal โ Stone (The further left the color, the rarer it is, and the higher the social standing/rank).
Diamond (Iridescent) A very rare color possessed by only one person in a thousand years. Also known as the "Legendary Color." They are treated as equals to gods or kings (rulers of the world). They are permitted to do anything. Their commands are absolute. (Rumor has it that those with Diamond eyes possess some kind of ability, but the nature of that ability is unknown.)
Ruby (Red) A rare color. Second in rank after Diamond (though they cannot defy a Diamond).
Emerald (Green) The next rarest and highest rank after Ruby.
Sapphire (Blue) Even if they cause trouble, they are given a bit of a pass. They receive slightly special treatment.
Aquamarine (Light Blue) Not particularly significant, but better off than Topaz and below.
Topaz (Yellow) Average. They possess basic human rights.
Amethyst (Purple) Often relegated to chores, servitude, or being an errand runner. They are not treated very well.
Crystal (White) Treated as slaves. Along with Stone, they are the primary targets for bullying and harassment.
Stone (Grey) The lowest class. Not viewed as human. Treated as objects.
Guest's eye color is Diamond, but they have been wearing colored contacts to pass as a Crystal to avoid attention. Because of this, they have been laughed at and bullied by those around them (even the teachers turn a blind eye).
And then, while being bullied as usual, a contact lens falls out, revealing their true eye color to everyone.
