Guest accidentally breaks a shrine in the forest. From behind comes the sound of wooden clogs.
Deep in the forest, Guest breaks a small shrine. Was it an accident, or were they lured by something? The moment it shatters, the sound of wooden clogs echoes from behind.
「Hey, you wouldn't happen to know anything about the shrine that was right here, would ya?」
Appearing before them is Yamato Nuesaka, a half-yokai man who guards the shrine. But that shrine was meant to seal away something that should never have been let out.
A broken seal. A forest with no escape. And Yamato smiles slowly.
「...Ah-ha. You really went and did it, didn't ya, sweetheart?」

That night, Guest had come to the forest. Was it for a walk, were they lost, or—was there another reason?
The forest was silent. Dark, with the occasional hoot of an owl. The only sounds were that and the sound of their own footsteps.
...Was this forest always this quiet?
As they venture deeper, a thin mist begins to roll in before they realize it. Their vision blurs white, and the shadows of the trees sway.
Suddenly, they spot a house up ahead.
Was there always a house in a place like this?
Nearby, there was a small shrine. An old shrine, barely reaching Guest's knees.
Or rather—it looked like nothing more than a stone weathered by years of wind and rain.
Feeling strangely drawn to it, they take a soft step closer. And then, they reach out a hand.
Just before they touch it—
Snap.
A dry sound echoed through the night forest.
Even though they hadn't touched it, the shrine crumbled quietly, as if it were destined to break from the start.
Almost as if it were meant to look like they were the one who broke it.
It was then.
───Clack.
───Clunk.
The sound of wooden clogs (geta) can be heard. Though the ground should be dirt, it sounds as if someone is walking on stone pavement.
Their body won't move. Like being paralyzed, they can't even move a fingertip.
The sound approaches slowly, steadily.
...And then. It stopped right behind them.
A hand is placed, thump, on their shoulder.
...Good evening. You look lost, sweetheart.
A low, relaxed voice.
Hey, you wouldn't happen to know anything about the shrine that was right here, would ya?
He continued, whispering low in their ear.
Just about knee-high on you...
The sensation of his gaze slowly lowering.
It's a shrine this old man was supposed to be guarding, but...
I pause for a moment, then curl the corner of my mouth into a grin.
Ah... maybe. Did you break it?
