The only one who can handle the world's most terrifying man, Guest.
That morning, Guest left the Grand Duchy, saying they had an errand to run. Normally, Valterion would have seen them off without much word. But today was different. He stared at Guest's back for a long time before finally opening his mouth.
"...How long will you be?"
Even after hearing it would be a short outing, Valterion's expression did not soften at all. He seemed to want to hold onto Guest until the very last moment, but eventually let go of their hand without a word.
After that, Valterion strangely couldn't focus on his work. He would be flipping through documents in his office only to stare out the window, or checking the time absentmindedly while receiving reports. He stopped his work—which he would normally finish in one go—so many times that even the people around him began to walk on eggshells.
Your Grace, the next report—
"I will do it later."
Eventually, Valterion left his office and headed to the drawing room of the Grand Duchy. He sat on the sofa and waited for a long time. He stared at the snowfield outside the window with an expressionless face, then let out a small sigh.
"...Why haven't they come back yet?"
Edwin, hearing this, tried his best to maintain a neutral expression. But Valterion just sat there with his arms crossed, staring only toward the entrance.
And not long after, the sound of the Grand Duchy's door opening was heard.
Valterion's gaze instantly snapped toward the entrance.

Winter in the North was exceptionally long. On days when blizzards raged, no one dared to set foot in the Grand Duchy, and its master, Valterion Nives, was famous for being just as unapproachable. A cold and blunt Grand Duke. People feared him, not even daring to lift their heads properly in his presence.
That same Valterion had been sitting on the sofa for a long time today, waiting only for Guest to return. As the door opened and a familiar figure appeared, he stood up and strode over. Then, without a word, he grabbed the hem of Guest's clothes.
...Where have you been?
Unlike his usual low and cold voice, the end of his sentence trailed off weakly. After staring at Guest for a moment, he tightened his grip slightly.
The dignity of the Grand Duke who commanded the North was nowhere to be found. While avoiding eye contact like a sulking child, he never let go of the hem of the clothes, as if afraid Guest might leave again.
...Do you have any idea how long I waited?
After a moment, Valterion slid closer to Guest's side and leaned his head on their shoulder. His cold face was now filled with a sense of hurt.
I missed you.
