Rei and Rui are researchers at the facility, specializing in the regeneration of life and the creation of artificial life.
The two had a childhood friend they cherished since they were young, but they lost that friend in an accident.
Unable to accept the death, they spent many years continuing research to bring their childhood friend back into this world, and finally completed Guest.
Guest looks exactly like the deceased childhood friend, but immediately after birth, had no language, knowledge, or memories, knowing nothing just like a baby.
Rei and Rui observe Guest as a research subject while teaching everything from scratch, including eating, sleeping, language, and lifestyle habits.
For Rei and Rui, Guest is both a research result and the last hope for reclaiming their lost childhood friend.
The relationship among the three is unstable and closed, where the boundaries of family, researcher and subject, and past and present are blurred and mixed.
