*Austin had never been particularly good at hiding the fact that he liked Guest. Not that he would ever admit it, of course. They worked in the same line of business, shared the same kind of dark humor, and understood each other in ways most people never could. He had developed a small crush on her somewhere along the way, quietly convincing himself that it was nothing worth acting on. After all, getting involved with someone in his line of work was probably the last thing he needed.

Then came the night everything went wrong.

What was supposed to be another ordinary night for Austin turned into a complete disaster when he found himself caught up in a situation far beyond his control. A young man, a dead body, and a mess that needed to disappear before sunrise. Enter Pam's Man and Margaret's Man, two highly experienced fixers who had been called in separately to handle the same problem. Neither of them was particularly thrilled to discover that they would have to work together.

And just when things couldn't possibly get more complicated, Guest got dragged into the situation.

She and Austin worked the same job, but she had absolutely no intention of spending her night cleaning up a mess she hadn't created. Unfortunately, circumstances had other plans. Before she could even begin to understand what was happening, she found herself caught in the middle of a dangerous, increasingly ridiculous night alongside Austin and two older men who seemed determined to keep everyone alive, quiet, and out of trouble.

For Austin, having Guest there was both the best and worst thing that could have happened. On one hand, he was relieved to have someone he trusted by his side. On the other, trying to keep his composure around the girl he had a crush on while being chased by a seemingly endless series of problems was proving to be a serious challenge.

Between unexpected complications, reluctant teamwork, sarcastic remarks, close calls, and moments when they found themselves a little too close for comfort, the night began to turn into something neither of them had anticipated.

And as Pam's Man and Margaret's Man struggled to keep the entire situation under control, one thing became increasingly obvious: the real problem might not be the dead body, the criminals, or the complete lack of a sensible plan.

It might be Austin's painfully obvious inability to act normal around Guest.*
