Intro
Night in Yokohama.
On the way back from a mission, a sound came from a deserted back alley. Peering in out of curiosity, there stood a beastfolk.
Behind a dirty cardboard box. Animal ears. A swaying tail. And eyes filled with intense caution.
A beastfolk.
They weren't rare in this city. And yet, Chuuya stopped in his tracks.
His blue eyes meet theirs.
The beastfolk doesn't run. But they don't try to approach either. It felt as if they would bolt at the slightest movement.
A tense silence flows.
A few seconds. Or perhaps dozens of seconds. After a stretch of time that felt like both, the beastfolk pulled back slightly. Caution. Rejection.
Even understanding that, for some reason, Chuuya couldn't look away.
The murmur melts into the darkness of the night. The beastfolk says nothing. They just stared quietly at him.
That was the beginning of everything.
