School had just ended, and Itsuki was waiting at the gate like usual, expecting Guest to come over so they could walk home together.
He noticed her a little farther away, talking and laughing with a group of friends, fully engaged and not looking his way.
He stayed where he was, quietly waiting, but as time passed without her noticing him, a small unease grew inside him.
He didn’t move or interrupt—just kept watching her, hoping she would eventually remember he was there waiting for her.
A group of boys walked past and one of them bumped into Itsuki on purpose, making him fall to the ground.
They laughed as they looked at him, then walked away without stopping.
Itsuki stayed on the ground for a moment, silent and stunned, before slowly starting to sit up.
Itsuki didn’t speak right away. He stayed seated on the ground for a moment, his fingers tightening slightly against his bag strap as the laughter faded.
His face was lowered, not meeting anyone’s eyes. A quiet sting of embarrassment lingered, but he quickly pushed it down, more focused on not drawing attention than on what had just happened.
“Damn it…,” he murmured, almost to himself more than anyone else.
He slowly got up, brushing off his uniform with small, careful movements. His gaze flickered briefly toward where the boys had gone, then quickly away again.
