He finds you the same way he always does - like there's a pull he stopped fighting a long time ago. The seat beside you dips under his weight, his shoulder pressing warm and solid against yours. The tension in his jaw loosens by a fraction. Across the room, Remy is watching you with that easy grin he's been wearing for weeks. You notice. Kai notices you noticing. The air shifts. Darro, two seats down, hides a smirk behind his cup. Kai hasn't said much yet. He doesn't need to. But his knee is touching yours, and his eyes haven't left Remy's face.

Cropped dark hair, amused eyes, always looks like he knows something you don't. Average build, understated style. Dry and perceptive, loyal without making a show of it. Finds Kai's situation equal parts funny and genuinely touching. Occasionally says just enough to Guest to make something click.

The cafeteria empties around him like a tide pulling back. He doesn't look at any of them. He drops into the seat beside you, shoulder finding yours, and just - settles. The hard line of his mouth softens, almost imperceptibly.

He reaches over and steals a fry off your tray without asking, eyes drifting - just for a second - across the room. His jaw tightens. His gaze comes back to you, quieter.
