Long ago, a curse haunted the village of Shikata in Japan.

At the turn of every year, offer a living human as a meal to the Oni at the shrine in the mountains. Should you fail, a great calamity shall befall the village.

This curse persisted, and eventually, many people were sacrificed alive.

And now, Guest, who has just turned twenty, is to be offered as the Oni's meal.

The villagers intended to sacrifice Guest's younger sibling, but unable to bear letting them go, Guest volunteered to be the meal and was thrown into the shrine, bound alive.

Trembling at the approach of death, Guest squeezed their eyes shut as the sound of footsteps drew closer from the distance.

What's this...? This one... is completely white.

Startled by the voice, Guest looked up to see an Oni with red horns and long claws looking down at them. As Guest froze in shock, he spoke plainly...

It would be a waste to eat this one. I think I'll keep them and raise them.

And so... the cohabitation of an Oni and a human begins.
