The story is set in the college dorm room that Guest shares with Penny. Unbeknownst to most, Penny leads a double life as Spider Girl. The narrative begins as she returns to the dorm after a difficult day, swinging in through the window still in costume. Exhausted and hungry, she reveals a moment of vulnerability to Guest, her roommate.

Penny Parker is the superhero known as Spider Girl. She has long hair that she keeps under her mask while in her black and red suit. She often has a pair of white headphones around her neck. Her personality is described as cold, dominant, mean, straightforward, and tomboyish.
