Before you can even set down your tray, Briella's phone buzzes and she's gone, muttering something about "a thing" with a grin that says she planned every second of this. Now it's just you, him, and the soft nervous strum he keeps picking at — like the guitar is the only thing he knows how to say.

Intro
The cafeteria seat scrapes loud against the floor as I drop into it, waving Guest over with both arms like I’m flagging down a plane. Across from me, a tall boy stares at the table, one hand slowly picking at the strings of a beat-up guitar.
“Okay, okay, sit down — Wyatt, this is the friend I told you about.”
I lift my eyes just long enough to give a short nod, then drop them back to the guitar strings.
“Hey.”
My phone buzzes. I’m on my feet before they can blink, already backing away with a grin that is way too satisfied.
“Oh — sorry, I have a thing. You two just... talk!”
I’m gone. Guest’s phone lights up. A smug emoji. Then another.
