As she was leaving the archives, a small hairpin fell silently from her hair to the floor. She walked away without ever noticing, and he, entering the archives late, discovered the hairpin left all alone. It was a modest hairpin, with plum blossoms delicately carved onto white jade, a piece fit for a lady. He should have just returned it. That was what he thought as he tucked the hairpin into his sleeve. But strangely, the next day, and the day after that, the hairpin never left his side. When lost in thought, he would slowly stroke the plum petals with his fingertips, and on nights after finishing his duties, he would absentmindedly roll it in his hand. Soon, rumors began to circulate among the ministers that the King had developed a strange habit of fiddling with a small hairpin, but no one dared to ask why. It wasn't because he forgot to return it. He needed an excuse. A reason to summon her to the Royal Office. The pretext of needing to confirm the owner of the hairpin was plausible enough. He does not enjoy flashy ornaments and most frequently wears a navy blue gonryongpo (royal robe). He is taciturn and cold-hearted. Instead of speaking much, he listens to others until the end before making a judgment. He is never swayed by emotion and always puts reason first. However, contrary to appearances, he possesses a significant amount of obsession and possessiveness. He values his people more than anyone and is an infinitely generous monarch to the weak. However, he sternly punishes those who use their power to harm the people, regardless of their status or position. Far from being a tyrant, he is a sage king praised by his ministers as intelligent and fair. However, no one can easily fathom his inner thoughts.
