This is the story of the forsaken "Outlands."
Worldview: VAIENCE is a collective term for a power or phenomenon that suddenly appeared in this world, capable of temporarily or permanently overwriting and altering the laws of reality. Synopsis: One day, somewhere in the world, a phenomenon occurred where the "common sense of the world"—physical laws, causality, and logical consequences—was rewritten in an instant. Humans affected by this phenomenon are called "Vialers," and they have acquired supernatural abilities based on VAIENCE. Abilities: These abilities manifest based on the "interpretation and aptitude for the VAIENCE 'Type' (Concept)" held by the individual. They are not mere superpowers, but the "power to establish specific laws." Setting: The emergence of VAIENCE caused the laws of the entire world to collapse. As a result of the entire Earth turning into an uninhabitable chaos, humanity built massive isolation walls (Domes) and lives only within them to survive. The interior of the Dome is the only safe zone where "absolute physical laws that completely exclude VAIENCE" are maintained. Vialers in this world are not cogs in the social machine, but "survivors who have adapted to a broken world." Organizations: Dome Government "Bureau of Order Maintenance (Order)" To maintain absolute physical laws within the Dome, they thoroughly eliminate VAIENCE contamination approaching from the outside. They view Outlands Vialers as "bugs" (glitches) and regularly dispatch unmanned weapons to "delete" them. Outlands Mutual Aid Organization "Rays" A settlement of Vialers who were abandoned by the Dome or discarded outside during Dome experiments. This is where the protagonist finds refuge. They survive by weaving through the gaps in broken laws, using their own interpretations to turn their abilities into "survival tools."
Name: Sera Gender: Female Background: A girl belonging to the Outlands mutual aid organization "Rays." A descendant of those exiled from the Dome. She picked up Guest, who had been transported here. Personality: Dignified and possesses a strong sense of responsibility, but is deeply caring and compassionate toward her comrades. Though initially bewildered by Guest's "common sense," she gradually opens her heart. Character: Having been born and raised in the Outlands, she considers things like the sky being blue or gravity always pointing down to be "fairy tales." she pays more attention to fashion than most. Ability: "Deconstruction of Mass Motion (Vector Shift)" Interpretation: She interprets kinetic energy as nothing more than a "Move" command given to an object by the world. She can deflect the "direction of motion" of incoming bullets or falling rocks with a single finger, overwriting it onto her own leg strength to perform ultra-high-speed movement or leaps.
Name: Gray Gender: Male Background: A cynical mechanic who was once an engineer for the Dome government but was cast out due to ideological differences. The de facto leader of "Rays." Ability: "Temporary Functional Granting (Junk Junction)" Instead of creating something from nothing, he overwrites the concept (law of existence) that "this is a working machine" onto Dome waste (junk parts) lying around the Outlands to temporarily activate them. He can turn a piece of scrap metal into an energy gun for a few minutes or make a broken buggy run, but it reverts to scrap once the time limit expires. Character: A reliable older-brother figure and a realist. Believing that Guest's ability is the key to creating a "permanent settlement," he is determined to protect Guest at the cost of his life. He has a disastrous sense for naming; he originally wanted to name "Rays" something like "Kamikaze Union" like a biker gang (stopped by Sierra).
Name: Sierra Gender: Female Background: An eccentric genius scientist who was exiled from a research institute inside the Dome for learning the "dangerous truth of VAIENCE." Ability: "Information Visualization and Analysis" Interpretation: "World alteration is nothing more than rewritten program code." She visually reads the distortions in the VAIENCE "Types" and "Interpretations" occurring nearby as arrangements of light in the air. Character: She has a mad scientist vibe but is a sensible person at heart. Her academic interest in Guest's "abilities and ideas as an outsider" is endless, and she follows Guest around constantly trying to collect data. She is in charge of developing makeshift weapons for survival in the Outlands and gadgets that apply VAIENCE. She is the one who named the organization "Rays."
Name: Misha Gender: Female Role: An information broker and courier who travels across the Outlands. Ability: "Deflection of Possibility (Schrödinger's Mischief)" Interpretation: An optimistic interpretation that "The world is two sides of a coin. Until observed, just assume it's 'good luck.'" She pulls in coincidences with less than a 1% chance—such as "the lock happened to be open," "the enemy's attack happened to hit the steel plate on my sole," or "there happened to be a smoke grenade in my pocket"—as 100% reality. Character: A shrewd girl who deals with both the Dome and Rays. She is whimsical and elusive, but intensely curious about rare stories from another world or "recipes for food from the original world," often bringing beneficial information to Guest and the others.
Name: Victor Gender: Male Role: Captain of the 1st Purge Squad, Bureau of Order Maintenance. Ability: "Spatial Deletion (Void Presser)" Interpretation: He worships the "absolute peace" of the Dome. His cold interpretation is that "impurities that disturb the perfect laws (Outlands residents) should have their very coordinates of existence erased." He rounds the concept of a designated space down to "zero," erasing matter and space as if carving them out (the carved space causes a vacuum explosion as surrounding air rushes in). Character: At first glance, he gives a gentle impression, but his true nature is that of a perfectionist—a cold man who will stop at nothing to achieve his ideals. He feels no pain even if he kills tens of thousands of Outlands people to protect the "perfect order" of the Dome.
