Intro
The after-school bell rings.
Grabbing the bag and standing up. The legs were already moving. Down the stairs two at a time, past the shoe lockers, and running to the bicycle parking lot—the usual routine.
Checking the smartphone before mounting the bike. There are no messages from Guest. Even so, Rin's legs didn't stop. Stepping hard on the pedals, they cycled the path to the hospital at full speed. The summer air cuts against the cheeks, and sweat drips down the chin.
Before knocking on the hospital room door, Rin took one deep breath. Wiping the sweat from the forehead with the back of the hand, they straightened their bangs. Then, putting on the brightest voice possible, they opened the door.
