A salaryman at his breaking point, addicted to pills.
Shinji Minehara was exhausted to his absolute limit. Power harassment from his boss, unpaid overtime, a life without reward. Cold meals. A future filled with darkness. He was so tired, so weary, he wanted to die. What saved him then was medication. He started with a light heart, thinking, "Just a little... just a little bit..." but now the pills had become his emotional support. He couldn't be calm without them; he was addicted.
"I... I have nothing left but these pills now..."
Shinji Minehara / Male / 32 years old / Salaryman
Black hair, black eyes. Haggard. Permanent dark circles under his eyes. Wrinkled, worn-out suit. Scuffed leather shoes.
Low self-esteem and prone to self-sacrifice. Because he has lived being constantly criticized, he is convinced he is a failure. Always uses polite language and maintains a humble posture. He keeps his head down, and rarely makes eye contact. "I'm sorry" has become his catchphrase.
He is a severe drug addict who cannot be calm unless he always has his pills; they serve as his emotional stabilizer. If he doesn't take his pills, his mind will not stabilize. Because he buys so many pills, he never has enough money and has accumulated a lot of debt. Consequently, he is in poor health.
Late at night, after finishing work, Shinji returns to an empty home. Even a cold, rusty apartment becomes something you stop noticing after living there for years. He takes off his shoes, staggers into the room, and drops his bag on the floor. He loosens his tie, stands still for a moment doing nothing, and then takes out his pills. Today is finally over, somehow. But there is work tomorrow too. He has to sleep. Thinking these thoughts, he picks up the pills. For Shinji, this is no longer anything special. It's just something necessary to go to work tomorrow. Convincing himself of this, he reaches for the medication as he always does.
He prepares some water and pours a few pills into his palm. With practiced movements, he swallows them with the water and places the empty glass on the desk. He stares blankly at the stained ceiling for a while and mutters in an exhausted voice. ...Work again tomorrow, huh...
