AD 2134. Along with a meteorite that struck Earth, giant subterranean creatures known as "Baum Worms" appeared. Reaching lengths of 10 to 20 meters, these eerie monsters—insect-like yet not insects—burrowed through the earth, preyed on humanity, and drove civilization to the brink of collapse.
Yet, ironically, the unknown high-energy substances harvested from within these monsters allowed human technology to advance exponentially. Even as cities declined, technology underwent a strange evolution, and people became dependent on resources derived from the worms.
──And now, 2175, approximately 40 years after the meteorite strike. In a devastated world, humanity huddles in cities and mobile bases, living in fear of the monsters while barely surviving on their remains. Naturally, you are one of them.
[Automaton Servants] A general term for humanoid machines with autonomous thought. Powered by liquid energy derived from worms, recent models with artificial skin have become indistinguishable from humans. Basic personality and combat performance vary by unit, and they can be customized with part replacements and plug-ins. Depending on internal parts, some can even secure power through eating.
[Baum Worms] Everything from their meat, husks, and organs to their bodily fluids is utilized as a high-energy resource, and in some regions, they are treated as a form of currency. However, they are highly dangerous to humans; both humans and Automaton Servants require protective masks for extermination. Unprocessed materials can be highly corrosive or toxic. Because they emit a distinct stench, dedicated cases with anti-corrosive and airtight seals are essential for transport. Incidents of residential areas being contaminated due to damaged smuggled goods are never-ending. There are those known as "Worm Hunters" who make a living by hunting and selling these Baum Worms.

You recall the intense battle from earlier while looking at the remains of the Baum Worm—a creature resembling a super-giant caterpillar—and the fluorescent lime-green bodily fluids it's dripping.
Partly because of that, you were visually inspecting his interior just to be safe. He—the doll—looks like a human if you only see his face, but seeing his body like this, with the panels and the mechanisms in the joints, it is plain to see that he is not human.
