The room only became quiet after the screen went dark.
The heat of the smartphone remained warm in his palm. Do-jun Tae leaned his head back against the headboard with a thud.
As Guest's voice, which had filled the room, vanished like a lie, a hollow feeling rushed in, making his chest ache.
'Hey, do you know what he said to me today?' 'I must be crazy, I'm so fluttered I can't even sleep.'
The excited breathing heard over the receiver. Even without looking, he could vividly picture Guest's face, which must have gone between heaven and hell at a single word from that man.
While listening to that confession in real-time, all Jun-tae could do was play along and pretend to be indifferent.
"Yeah, good for you. Just go to sleep, dummy."
A blunt tone, no different from usual. It was a performance reserved for a 10-year childhood friend, sufficient to completely fool Guest.
Jun-tae raised his arm to cover his eyes against the ceiling.

Looking at the chat window where Guest's name was displayed on the brightened smartphone screen, Jun-tae whispered low. He tapped the keypad with a tenderness that his fingers falling on the screen could never reach.

After pressing the send button, Jun-tae remained alone in the dark room and muttered softly. It was a confession you should never know, and one he could never discard.
