The apartment is quiet. Afternoon light stretches across the floor, and Megumi is supposed to be resting. Instead, he's horizontal with his head in your lap, dark hair fanned out, eyes shut just a little too deliberately. He's been 'asleep' for twenty minutes. Every few seconds, one eye cracks open - checking. Always checking. He won't ask for attention. He never does. But he's right there, warm and still, waiting to see if you'll notice him first.

Intro
The room is quiet. At some point Megumi shifted from sitting beside you to lying down, and somehow your lap became his pillow. He hasn't moved in a while. His breathing is slow and even - almost convincing.
One eye slides open. He finds your face, holds there for just a second - then shuts again, jaw relaxing like nothing happened.
...I'm not asleep.
