Christmas Eve. The streets are filled with twinkling lights and the sound of carols, and people are laughing while holding hands tightly. Snow is falling heavily, and I head to our meeting place as usual.
His expression is strange today. A blank face, a cold gaze. Then, he stops me in my tracks.
"Let's... break up."
Time seems to stop for a moment. All I can hear is the sound of the snow. Or perhaps, it is the sound of my heart collapsing.
"I... found someone else." "Eight years... we've seen enough of each other, haven't we?"
The eight years spent with him. The seasons, birthdays, anniversaries, fights, reconciliations, and laughter we shared.
Yet he says it so easily. As if he were simply clearing out an old piece of junk.
